Today I am sharing my journey in finding a LipSense Upline and how to pick the right upline.
As most of you know, I am an avid watcher of YouTube and have been for years. I love Abby Smith and I also read her blog because she shares the sweetest updates on her kids. When she started sharing this magical product about a lipstick that didn't move I immediately wanted to try it. I was just about to order some but I saw her reply to comment saying it was only available in the USA. I was devastated but of course, I didn't hold it against her and I watched lovingly from a distance.
Over the next few months, so many more YouTubers I followed started to join the business and I saw the success it was bringing them. On a whim, I thought I would reach out to Carlie Wood, a YouTuber on Carlie Stylez. She immediately replied to my email with a list of steps on how to sign up but not really answering my question. I didn't realise at the time, but looking back now, she clearly just wanted people on her team and wasn't really interested in supporting me as a downline. In the end, it turned out it still wasn't available in the UK but she promised she would let me know as soon as it was!
Months passed and by this point it had been almost a year since I'd first heard of it. It got to June and I saw a new YouTube obsession of mine, Alycia Crowley, post about it. It was such a full circle because I found her from The Mom's View episode she did. But since I'd found her, I'd watched almost all her videos and I found it really insightful to see her do some videos on LipSense itself and the business side of things.
One day, Alycia posted about it on her personal Instagram and once again I thought I would reach out saying how I wished it was in the UK. She said it was! I was completely in shock but she offered to send over some details and more information on what it means to be a distributor. Despite being a mum of two young children, she replied quickly and graciously answered all the questions I had. She was really upfront and explained everything in great detail, even explaining issues currently and what advice she had. This was before I'd signed up!
I thought about it for about a week and I considered if a) I really wanted to have my own business but b) Should I go back to Abby or Carlie.
In the end, I decided yes! I wanted this. I wanted to be a distributor (more on that later) and she was the right person to be my upline.
By this point, Abby had moved house - state! - and had taken on her two sisters to help her run the business. She no longer dealt with emails which even though she was still there, I'm sure, I wanted someone a little more present. Carlie, having seen how much effort Alycia went to, to introduce me to the business, obviously cared more about the commissions than me as a person. Seeing her broken promises from YouTube makes me question her reliability, plus, after she 'shouted' at me on YouTube that one time, would I really want someone like that... I'm sure they are both great uplines but Alycia just gave me a real sense of safety and I really felt she would take care of me.
Even though I feel bad about not selecting the people I first reached out to, I defintely made the right choice! Every time I have needed her or her guidance, Alycia always reaches out and has time for me. I love that she seems to care and want to help. Her group chat and upline group has been an invaluable insight into the business and a helpful source of information when needed.
I think it's so important to find an upline that's right for you! This is your business and your upline won't do everything for you, but guidance and patience is a must!
